A newly renovated hospital in Hong Kong required a highly reliable temperature monitoring system for 65 medical refrigerators and freezers storing vaccines, blood products, and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. Regulatory compliance, patient safety, and operational continuity were critical project drivers.

The hospital has selected our NB-IoT–enabled temperature monitoring solution SEN20200-TP0A utilizing industrial-grade PT100 temperature probe sensors. Each refrigeration unit was equipped with a PT100 probe to ensure precise, continuous measurement across a wide temperature spectrum—from deep-freeze storage to controlled medical refrigeration ranges.

The PT100 sensor technology provided three key technical advantages:

  • High accuracy: Platinum resistance sensing ensures tight tolerance and stable long-term performance, essential for medical cold-chain compliance.

  • Fast response time: Rapid thermal detection enables early anomaly identification, minimizing risk of spoilage.

  • Wide operating range: Suitable for both sub-zero freezers and positive-temperature storage units within a unified platform.

Connectivity was delivered through NB-IoT, leveraging Hong Kong’s existing cellular infrastructure. By utilizing licensed spectrum and carrier-grade coverage, the hospital avoided installing additional gateways, repeaters, or proprietary network infrastructure. This streamlined deployment significantly reduced installation complexity, commissioning time, and capital expenditure.

The NB-IoT architecture also ensures strong indoor penetration—critical for refrigeration units located in laboratories, pharmacies, and basement storage areas. Encrypted data transmission supports secure, real-time monitoring with automated alerts triggered when temperature thresholds are breached.

The project was completed efficiently during the renovation phase, integrating seamlessly into the hospital’s facilities management workflow. Today, the hospital benefits from 24/7 remote visibility across all 65 cold storage assets, with automated compliance reporting and audit-ready data logs.

This deployment demonstrates how combining PT100 precision sensing with NB-IoT connectivity delivers a scalable, regulation-ready, and infrastructure-light solution for mission-critical healthcare environments.
